For us, the joy of heading out to either the Old Fishmarket or Seafood Kitchen and Bar is twofold.
Firstly, you to get to experience some of the cracking dishes we’ve perfected over many years using only the finest and freshest produce we can get our hands on - all washed down by a well-earned tipple be it a gorgeous glass of Squerryes or a thirst-quenching pint. Secondly though, and perhaps what’s at the core of the dining experience, is simply the fact that you can have a night off from the stress of shopping, cooking, and washing up.
That being said, it’s not surprising many of our guests leave inspired after savouring something special from our menus, and we’re big fans of everyone getting stuck in at home honing their culinary skills and revelling in the joys of seafood. Although we can’t transfer our chefs’ skills into your hands though, we can meet you halfway in the form of our brilliant meal kits. Put together by Matthew himself and the rest of the Sankey’s team, they’re great for novices and experts alike to enjoy the art of cooking fish without trawling the shops for an array of ingredients.
There are several to discover and make the most out of, but for now we’re giving you an insight into one of our favourites – the Dover Sole kit.
Dover Sole: The centrepiece and star of the show, it’d be silly for us not to start with the fish. Sole generally tend to not be too ‘fishy’, making a kit like ours great as either an entry point for those not too familiar with seafood flavours, or to cover a range of tastes if you have guests. Instead, it’s mild yet subtly sweet, and defined by its firmer texture that provides a unique experience on the palate.
Skinned by our talented fishmongers, they’re primed to be baked in the oven for a flaky finish.
Yealands Sauvignon Blanc: A mouth-watering fillet of Dover Sole wouldn’t be complete without the perfect pairing. For this meal kit we’ve picked out Yealands’ award-winning Sauvignon Blanc that provides stunning flavours without breaking the bank either. Textured on the palate, expect notes of blackcurrant leaf, passionfruit, and bright green bursts of citrus to compliment that splash of lemon you’ll be giving the fish.
Produced in New Zealand’s Awatere Valley right on the coast, it’s no surprise this one goes so well with seafood.
The rest of the kit:
- Salted Butter
- 500gof New Potatoes
- 2xGarlic Cloves
- 1x Banana Shallot
- 1x Lemon
